Roncesvalles

Affectionately known as “Ronces” to locals and visitors alike, this ever-popular area has a distinct village-like feel and an undeniable charm. Traditionally a polish area, those authentic butchers, bakeries and delis are still busy spots amongst the popular cafes, restaurants, and shops. This green leafy neighbourhood is arguably one of the most popular strolls in downtown Toronto. Roncesvalles side streets date back to the 1900s, and the side streets are characterized with Edwardian and Victorian houses, leafy porches, and beautiful gardens.

Like most places this close to downtown Toronto, you’ll find an eclectic mix of families, young artists, students, and working professionals. Because of the relaxed feel of the area and the proximity to schools, however, families tend to rule this little hood. Detached homes comes at a premium in the area, with the average price well over a million. Expect to find homeowners that are middle-upper class, dual-income families.

Location! Roncesvalles is highly walkable and moments away from downtown, with easy transit access, and is one of the nicest streets for strolling in all of the GTA to boot. There are good schools in close proximity, which can be hard to come by so close to downtown. There’s also an incredible sense of community, with tons of events year-round. The proximity to High Park also means you get plenty of people with a penchant for outdoor life, and the streets are always bustling with joggers, strollers, and dogs.
